Princes Risborough: The Market House
The Market House was donated by John Grubb in 1824 and replaced an earlier market building. It was restored in 1867 and again in the 1920s when it became the town's War Memorial. The upper room, where the Town Council meet, is supported on brick arches, while a clock turret and cupola surmount the slate roof. There are lean-to pentices on three sides on the ground floor, the side without being the hidden one to the right in this photograph. As ever it is always sad to see a clock on such an important civic building as this displaying the wrong time.
