Balcony Seating in New Mill Baptist Church, Tring
The balcony can be reached by stairs from the entrance of the building (behind the photographer) or by doorways into the former school room, now a hall, refurbished in 2015.

View from the Balcony in New Mill Baptist Church, Tring
On the base of the far balcony you can see a small round wooden disc. This is where the original gas lighting was installed. Gas was used to light the church well into the 20th century.

The Pulpit in New Mill Baptist Church, Tring
The height of the pulpil is not meant to reflect the status of the minister but rather to ensure that the minister could clearly be seen by people sitting in the balcony. Originally the boards behind the pulpit could be removed so that if the chapel was full addition people could hear the sermon from the adjacent downstairs hall.

The current pews were installed in 1912 and up to the time of the Second World War you could rent a pew for your family use only.
