Tringford Pumping Station
This Grade II listed building https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1067754 was constructed in 1816-17 to pump water from the group of four Tring reservoirs into the summit level of the Grand Union Canal via the Wendover Arm. Seen here from the footpath which skirts the western perimeter of Tringford Reservoir. See also Image] & Image] For a good view of the whole pumping station, see Image]

Tringford Reservoir - The pumping station
Another view of Image] taken from the same place as Image] but with a much higher zoom. The actual pumping station is the brown building, just the end of which can be seen. The main white building is either (former) offices associated with it, or part of Tringford Farm. For a good view of the whole pumping station, see Image]

Dog Walking at Tringford Reservoir
This footpath (Number TU55) links with others to provide a number of circular routes of varying lengths ideal for walking dogs. Because this is a nature reserve it is important that dogs are kept firmly under control and do not wander from the path. Franci, seen here off the lead, has no intention of leaving the path. He is nearly seventeen and with failing eyesight he prefers the well-marked way and avoids having to push his way through vegetation. See Image

Tringford Reservoir - herons on a log
These herons were perched out of the mud on a fallen tree on the western end of Tringford Reservoir, meanwhile their pal was in the midst of the revealed mud - see Image] Note, there's a third heron seen beneath the log on the left hand side - he seems to have caught something!

The North End of the Woodland Path, Tringford Reservoir
The footpath along the top of the dam at Tringford (Number TU55) runs through a belt of woodland to the west of the Reservoir. There is a short spur path (Number TR42) which runs west shortly after the wood is entered (junction in distance in the photograph) and connects with the narrow winding road known as “The Wiggles”. Woodland Clearance at Tringford Reservoir
A small area of woodland between the footpath and the boundary fence has been cleared. This is effectively the same view as Image which was taken almost 3 years earlier.

Treebeard striding through the wood at Tringford Reservoir
Treebeard is the walking tree (Ent) in the 'Lord of the Rings' – and the unromantic will claim that this is merely the wreck of an ancient horse chestnut tree and dismiss the outstretched arms, the eyes, the ivy covered nose and the open mouth as pure imagination. See Image

Tringford Reservoir - very low water levels
The water level in Tringford Reservoir is currently very low after the many dry days we've had of late with this western end reduced to just a trickle between expanses of mud.

Looking across the Reservoir towards Tringford Farm
This shows the strip of woodland that runs along the west side of the reservoir. The current Tringford Farm, seen in the distance, is comparatively modern. See Image
