Wingrave Road, Aston Abbotts
Aston Abbotts is an attractive village with some interesting buildings. The Royal Oak is an appealing thatched pub. The buildings behind (on the left) look to have belonged to a large house. As its name suggests there was an abbey here - and a property to the west of the village is called The Abbey. During WWII Aston Abbotts played host to the exiled president of Czechoslovakia, Edvard Beneš who set up the Czech government in exile at The Abbey. After the war Beneš became president again, and remembering his time in Buckinghamshire, thanked the local people by providing them with a bus shelter near Wingrave crossroads - see Image]
