Down the west side of the street, old houses and shops in vernacular materials as seen here; unseen on the east side, the Friars Square shopping centre, a contrast which says a lot about how the late twentieth century treated Aylesbury.

Aylesbury: Lloyds TSB Bank, 1 Market Square
The bank occupies a prominent position in the town and its history is recorded in the inscriptions in the stonework above the front door, The Old Bank of 1795 and The Bucks & Oxon Union Bank of 1853.

Street Corner, Old Aylesbury
The corner of George and Temple Streets.
This sort of scene makes Aylesbury look a quaint old place, but there's only a handful of streets like this.
Hideous 60s blockhouses lurk around every corner and a wide inner ring road stops much charisma escaping out into the rest of the town.
