Aylesbury Station, 1991
View SE, towards Amersham and London, also Princes Risborough: ex-Metropolitan & GC Joint main line from London (Marylebone, formerly also Baker Street), to Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield by the ex-GCR 'London Extension (closed 5/9/66). The Metropolitan (LPTB from 1933) from Baker Street ran through to Verney Junction until 1936, but from 6/61 was cut back to Amersham. The ex-GW & GC Joint branch from Princes Risborough also remains. Here in 1991 this former Aylesbury ('Joint', later 'Town') station is being thoroughly refurbished: subsequently (12/08) trains will run on to the new Aylesbury Vale Parkway station on the residual line to Quainton Road. 'First Generation' DMUs dominate the services in 1991.

This mural is located on Platform 2 at Aylesbury Station and has been commissioned by Aylesbury Garden Town, working in partnership with Chiltern Railways. It is one of four murals at the station and is called "Sustainable Travel".

This notice is by the mural on platform 2 at Aylesbury Railway Station, https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7221242 refers. It has the following wording:
This mural was commissioned by Aylesbury Garden Town,
working in partnership with Chiltern Railways. It was designed
by award-winning artists, Dan 'Decreate' Wilson and Teakster.
Each of the four murals on the station represents a different
Aylesbury Garden Town theme. This one is Sustainable Travel
and features the planned Gardenway as well as wheelchair
athletes training, reflecting Stoke Mandeville's Paralympic legacy.
The beautiful blue background patterns represent the canals and
waterways of Aylesbury, that are a key part of the local landscape.

Aylesbury railway station
Opened in 1863 by the Wycombe Railway on the line from High Wycombe via Princes Risborough, this is now also on the route from London Marylebone via Amersham. View north west towards Aylesbury Vale Parkway.

Aylesbury Station
Although at one time an intermediate station on the Great Central line to Sheffield and Manchester, Aylesbury was from 1966 onwards a terminus for trains using the two routes from Marylebone. Services now extend north to Aylesbury Vale Parkway but this remains the principal station for the town centre.
