Brill Windmill
Viewed on a dull December day. It is Grade II* listed and dates from the late 17th Century with numerous subsequent improvements. It has retained its sails but does not turn any more with the wind.

Brill Windmill - stone nut
This is a post mill with a round house, four common sails and winding by tailpole. Thought to be of late 17th century origin with later additions. Restored in 1948 and 2009 but no longer workable. This shows the cast iron stone nut that meshes with the wooden great spur wheel and drives one set of stones underdrift.

Brill Windmill - the middle level of the buck
This is a post mill with a round house, four common sails and winding by tailpole. Thought to be of late 17th century origin with later additions. Restored in 1948 and 2009 but no longer workable. This shows the two sets of underdrift mill stones, the brake wheel and the wallower that drives down to the great spur wheel below. The chain is for the sack hoist. The top level is above my head and accessed by a locked trap door. I was able to manoeuvre a camera up there. Note some modern steel work to reinforce the buck.
