Great Missenden: Former Wagon & Horses public house & parish pound or lock-up
The cream house is the former Wagon & Horses public house on the east side of the High Street. The small brick building in front, at an angle to the road, is thought to be the parish pound or lock-up.
The former Wagon & Horses is a Grade II Listed Building, with the lock-up included for group value.
The Historic England website describes the group thus:-
"C18, brick, front elevation rendered and painted. Old tiled hipped roof. Two storeys three C19 sash windows to ground floor, modern door on right of centre. Three 3-light casements to first floor. Stack with offsets on right flank wall. Small rectangular one storey brick outbuilding on right, old tiled hipped roof, corbelled eaves, door on south wall. Said to be parish pound or lockup, restored by Parish Council in 1896."

Great Missenden: The former George Inn
The George Inn was built around 1480 and was the first such establishment in Great Missenden. It is thought that its purpose was to serve the people who came to visit the Abbey, offering them sustenance and a place to stay.
It merits Grade II* Listed Building status and the Historic England website describes it thus:-
"Late C15 or early C16, refronted, colourwashed rendering to front wall. Old tile roof, 2 storeys, right hand part with central door, modern leaded casements each side, two 3-light similar windows to first floor. Gable to left over former carriage arch, now blocked in. Part to left rebuilt early 1970s. Interior: of right hand section contains complete medieval hall and parlour wing. Large moulded arch braced collar hall truss visible on first floor, original floor of parlour wing right hand bay, and moulded beams and joists of late C16 or C17 flooring in hall all visible on ground floor. Good C18 wood fireplace on rear wall with dentil cornice and arch headed corner cupboard adjacent."
In addition at the rear is a separate Grade II* Listed barn, possibly originally built as a courthouse.
From information available online The George Inn appears to have ceased trading as a pub in 2014, and is currently in a very poor state, pending refurbishment by its owners. However there is an active group fighting to preserve and restore the buildings and its website is here https://www.savethegeorge.co.uk/

Closure Notice outside La Petite Auberge restaurant in Great Missenden
Located outside La Petite Auberge restaurant at 107 High Street, this notice has the following wording:
To all our dear customers
We hope that you are keeping well during these difficult times. After
closing our doors over one year ago due to Covid-19, we have made the
decision to close permanently our restaurant La Petite Auberge.
It certainly wasn't an easy decision for us to make as we have served the
residents of Great Missenden and its surrounding area for over 30 years.
However, now is the time to put our feet up and start enjoying our
retirement with our family.
We wish we could have said a final farewell to all our loyal customers who
have supported us over the years, but with the current restrictions in
place, sadly this will not be possible. We are however contactable on
(given E-Mail address) should you wish to get in touch.
Thank you to you all for your custom. We wish you good health and happiness
for the future.

The closed La Petite Auberge in Great Missenden
Located at 107 High Street HP16 0BB, this restaurant used to serve French cuisine for over thirty years. However, it closed in March 2020 and will not be reopening as mentioned on the notice to the left of the door https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6891274 refers. Unfortunately, I never took the opportunity to sample the food and drink at La Petite Auberge, which translated means "the small inn/tavern". It is quite likely that this building will now become a private dwelling.

The "Cage", Great Missenden
Situated in the High Street near the Fire Station, it is a small brick-built edifice which was the overnight accommodation for many miscreants, drunks, rowdies and other minor nuisances in the village. In earlier times, it may even have housed highwaymen and footpads. Once called the Parish Pound, it was restored by the local Parish Council in 1896. Its postcode is HP16 0BB.
