Stokenchurch: Former Primitive Methodist Chapel
This Primitive Methodist Chapel dates from 1896 and is on The Common. The architecture is quite ornate compared to the normal styles used in this type of building. This is a repeat view of the subject that was used for the First Geograph Image in this grid square from 2005.

Primitive Methodist chapel, Stokenchurch
Dated 1896, 'Primitive' has now been dropped from its title. It looks rather too embellished to be primitive, anyway.

Primitive Methodist Chapel, Stokenchurch
1893-96, probably by T. Colbourne. Driving past, this caught the corner of my eye so I stopped to take a snap. Later I was chastened to read Pevsner describe it as a "hideous-looking building in a belated and debasted Italianate. The central window and its plate tracery is particularly hard to appreciate." Ouch.
