Distinctly over-the-top for the size of village, and calling it Hotel de Ville is definitely affectation. However, if you are the local Lord, and have plenty of money, you can do what you like! Built in 1854 and dedicated to Sir William Amcotts Ingilby, who commenced its construction, by his widow Louisa. It was the last building of the village to be built. Listed Grade II. There is a flush bracket bench mark http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2710020 on the near corner below the green notice on the wall.

Town Hall and Post Office, Main Street, Ripley
Completed by Louisa the widow of Sir William Amcotts Ingilby in 1854 this Grade II Listed building was the last building of the estate village. Sir William's long association with and interest in France and Switzerland resulted in the inscription 'HOTEL DE VILLE 1854'. In June 2004 Ripley Star Club received a £99,500 Heritage Lottery Fund grant to renovate and reorganise the interior, bar area roof and stained glass windows. The work was also supported by the Ripley Castle Estate, Entrust, Harrogate Borough Council and Awards For All. The work resulted in 2007 in Ripley Star Club receiving The Duke of York's Community Initiative Award, a commendation in The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Pro Yorkshire Awards and the National Gold Award of the International Green Apple Awards 2007 for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage.
