The Cairn Hotel
The Cairn was built in 1890 on a site fronting Ripon Road. At one time it offered hydropathic treatment for the spa visitors and was known as the Cairn Hydro. In 1955 one could stay for bed and breakfast for a modest 21 shillings [£1.05] - considerably cheaper than the nearby Majestic.

Harrogate, Cairn Hotel entrance
The Cairn Hotel is on the western side of Ripon Road. This stone gatepost is the right hand post to the southern entrance to the hotel. On the base of the gatepost is a benchmark.

Harrogate, Ripon Road
This stone post is on the eastern side of Ripon Road, and is at the junction with Springfield Avenue. Towards the base of the post there is a benchmark which is about 1 foot from ground level. The stone has been repointed, and the benchmark has also been filled with cement, although the outline of the mark still remains.
