A drained section of the canal, Slaithwaite
Quite a long section of the canal is almost empty. This happened previously in 2018, and was then due to a build up of silt that prevented the closure of a lock gate. This scene looks rural but there is industry behind the trees on the left.

Spa Mills, Slaithwaite
Established as steam powered woollen spinning mill in 1860s. Acquired in 1902 by Slaithwaite Spinning Co., which in 1906-7 built this large five storey fireproof cotton-spinning mill, modelled on Lancashire designs (but in stone not brick).

Spa Mill
A new erection is about to obscure the lower part of the engine house, so this was just in time. The mill is still extant on the satellite image, complete with extension.
