Badger Hill, Dewsbury Road, Rastrick
It is hard to imagine that this area was occupied by Badger Hill Mills until the late 20C.

Dewsbury Road, Rastrick
This is the B6118. There were unemployment relief works in 1827 to improve the gradient of Badger Hill (part of the Elland-Dewsbury Turnpike). These presumably included constructing the retaining wall next to the cricket ground on the right and the cutting towards the top of the hill. Badger Hill Mills were on the left.

Lands Farm, New Hey Road
This farm appears to be derelict as seen from the road, but it is evidently in use, and I hope it is repaired rather than demolished.

The Sun Inn, New Hey Road, Rastrick
This is at the cross-roads where the New Hey Road turnpike, built on a new line in 1806, crosses the medieval main road from Dewsbury to Elland, which was turnpiked in 1759. The traffic lights were installed when the motorway opened in 1973.

The western end of Clough Lane (A6107) Rastrick
The deeply overhanging eaves behind the lamp-post were perhaps a minor fashion at the end of the 19C - a reference to Swiss chalets, maybe.

Badger Hill Cricket Ground from Far Common, Rastrick
The land in the foreground was a quarry in 1850, with a field at the bottom that is now a cricket ground. The road on the right is Dewsbury Road.

Far Common from Dewsbury Road B6114, Rastrick
Looking across the southern end of Badger Hill cricket ground. The foreground is the top end of a field called Slaide. This means a valley or dell, but the valley has been filled in and levelled. Beyond is a field called Far Common, which has been quarried, resulting in a level area with a grass-grown quarry face behind. At the top of the quarry the field has reverted to the type of grassland and young trees associated with a common.
