Castlefields Crescent, Rastrick
An estate of dormer bungalows. It is hard for incomers like myself to imagine Rastrick in the first half of the 20C, when this was 'all green fields'.

Houses off Castle Fields Drive.
This row of four houses is shown on the 1920 1:2500 map, but not on the 1907 edition. The access route is not shown, but they were close to a track up from Castle Fields Drive that eventually became Castle Fields Road. There is still an access route between the houses on Castle Fields Road. The access shown in this image crosses the line of a watercourse that was probably open when the houses were built.

The Well Lane footpath
Although this path is not shown on OS maps of the early 20C, it must have been established as a right-of-way as it is a public footpath.

Brighouse FP88 at Field Lane, Rastrick
Field Lane goes to the left, to meet Field Top Road, and what was originally a field path carries straight on. It is now shaded by trees, and instead of a field there is a very broad grass verge.

Cottages, Thornhill Road, Rastrick (SE139218)
Here there is a great contrast between the old cottages and the later 19C terrace houses. The cottages are on the township map of 1812, and were on what was then Brook Grain Hill. The surface of this was evidently at a lower level than the present road.

Castlefields Drive, Rastrick
This road follows the valley, whilst Thornhill Road climbs steeply up to the town centre. The development started with the terrace houses on the right, and the road was made in the first half of the 20C. It gives access to the Castlefields Crescent estate, but the frontage development on the left is quite recent.
