Railway Bridge, Bridge End, Rastrick
Network Rail are doing their best to reduce the risk of tall vehicles hitting their bridge! The Star on the right was named on the 1850 6" map, and has seen of two competitors. The White Lion between it and the railway bridge closed in 1908 and was demolished before 1940; the land is now part of a garden for a house up the hillside. The Duke of York was beyond the railway bridge, next to the river, and closed in 1927 but was not demolished until after 1940. The site has been landscaped.

Brighouse Viaduct
Viewed from Cliffe Road towards the A643 Bridge End. The very low arched viaduct appears to be held together by tie bars and pattress plates visible between the arch voussoirs and the string course above. The bridge ref. is MVN2/171 which translates as Manchester Victoria Normanton Section 2 Bridge 171.

Road closures at Bridge End, Rastrick
Straight ahead, Rastrick Bridge is closed due to flood damage, which is now being repaired. The closure on the right, at the end of Cliffe Road, is probably because it was considered that the increased traffic on the road, which is an unofficial diversion route, might lead to a collision. Traffic now has to go under the main road bridge and then turn right.
