The lane becomes suburban near to Clifton Common (the A643). The semi-detached houses are of the type with a long narrow tiled roof over the door and bay window. They were built between about 1912 and 1940.

Lane off Clifton Common, Clifton
This short lane off the A643 does not have a name. It was at Gin Pit Hill on the 1850 map, and seems to have been a field access track.

Tour de Yorkshire - the leading group climbing Clifton Common
They are a few minutes ahead of the peloton. As I type this they are down to five, with the 'circle of death', as the final circuit with its four vicious climbs is called, yet to come. Will they stay clear to the finish at Stocksbridge? Update - no, they were caught with 20km to go.
