The demolition of Sunnybank Mills, Longwood
This is from practically the same spot as one of Humphrey Bolton's picturesImage The area to the left is houses and to the right there's woodland. This was one of many mills that filled the road out from Milnsbridge.

Footpath at Nab End, Longwood
Why such tall walls? The land on the right is otherwise unenclosed and has moorland vegetation, and there is a field of grass on the left. The cross-section of the wall shows how it is tapered from bottom to top.

Sunnybank Mills hit the dust.
A large complex of woollen mills in Longwood was being demolished on a less than sparkling day. I was able to walk right through the middle of the demolition site - try that in 2008. The chimney looks a little wonky. The dead straight chimney in the distance is Joseph Hoyle's Prospect Mills. That is now also gone. Humphrey Bolton has photographed this area in the post-mill era.

Old milestone
Looking northwest up Longwood Gate, it can be seen how vulnerable this Hansom Cab Fare-stage stone dating from the late 19C is. The low wall and railings surround Longwood Grange Care Home. It is 2½ miles from Huddersfield town centre.
