Lock No 5E, Huddersfield Narrow Canal
This lock is almost in the shadow of Paddock railway viaduct, this view being taken looking southwestwards, i.e. 'uphill'. There is an aqueduct south of this lock, where the canal crosses the River Colne.

Former canal arm
Whatever this arm of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal served presumably disappeared when the railway viaduct was built overhead. Some have suggested that it was built as a winding hole.

Longroyd Bridge Railway Viaduct, Huddersfield
Viewed from the end of St Thomas's Road. This magnificent structure carries the Huddersfield to Sheffield "Penistone Line" over the A62 Manchester Road, the River Colne, the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and just about everything else.

Huddersfield narrow Canal approaching Birkhouse Lane
The tall structure is the riveting tower of the former Birkhouse Boiler Works. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal was derelict when I used to play alongside it but as can be seen it is now a functional pleasure waterway.
