Edgware: Canons Park gate pillars
These massive pillars are at the entrance into Canons Drive on the Canons Park Estate off Edgware Road, looking back towards the latter. This would have been the entrance to the drive leading to the Canons Park mansion from the south-east when the Duke of Chandos first owned the estate. A brown Harrow Heritage Trust plaque on the wall next to the right hand pillar reads:- 'Canons' Gate Pillars. Entrance Gate Piers to 'Canons' from Old Turnpike Road. Built in 1712 for James Brydges 1673-1744, 1st Duke of Chandos. House demolished 1740 and existing buildings constructed from salvaged materials. Piers refurbished 1998.
