Roundabout at the junction of the A409 with Palmerston Road, Wealdstone. The A409 has been diverted to by-pass Wealdstone High Street.

Harrow has been a constant building site since I began working there in 1989 onwards and seems to be increasing in volume each year.

The gate on Palmerston Road allows fire engines and cyclists through, but prevents other traffic using this road as a short-cut.

The A409 road has been diverted away from Wealdstone High Street. the road is already at a raised level, crossing the railway (behind the photographer), and continues on another bridge before descending back to ground level.

Buses on the 140 route between Harrow Weald and Heathrow Airport pause to collect passengers outside Harrow & Wealdstone Station.

Harrow & Wealdstone station carries a memorial to 112 people who lost their lives here on 8th October 1952 in the second worst disaster to occur on the UK railway network. The 7:31 commuter service standing in the up fast platform with 800 passengers aboard was struck in the rear by the late Perth-Euston sleeper running at around 60mph which had passed a colour-light distant signal and two semaphore signals at danger in patchy fog. Although the area signals were immediately returned to danger by the signalman it was too late to prevent the 8am Euston-Liverpool from colliding with the wreckage of the initial accident at around 60mph. The reason for the Perth express passing the signals was never established as the driver was amongst those who died.
