Looking towards the memorial entrance to Harrow Weald Recreation Ground
The land for Harrow Weald Recreation Ground was donated to the parish in 1895 by Thomas Francis Blackwell J.P. He was a member of the Crosse & Blackwell family who originated from Harrow Weald. A memorial brick and timber lodge in the north-east corner of the present recreation ground can be seen ahead. The other side of the entrance can be seen at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5543934 It records on a stone plaque set over the entrance arch that it was "Erected to the memory of Thomas Francis Blackwell J.P. donor of this ground to the parish." A separate plaque records the date as 1911. Harrow Weald Recreation Ground was purchased by Harrow Urban District Council in 1932 for use as a public open space. The recreation ground was extended in 1937 when Harrow Council purchased the lodge and garden of Belmont, following the death of its owner Charles James Ward, who was a member of the parish council and benefactor of Harrow Hospital.
