In Memory
Harrow & Wealdstone station carries a memorial to 112 people who lost their lives here on 8th October 1952 in the second worst disaster to occur on the UK railway network. The 7:31 commuter service standing in the up fast platform with 800 passengers aboard was struck in the rear by the late Perth-Euston sleeper running at around 60mph which had passed a colour-light distant signal and two semaphore signals at danger in patchy fog. Although the area signals were immediately returned to danger by the signalman it was too late to prevent the 8am Euston-Liverpool from colliding with the wreckage of the initial accident at around 60mph. The reason for the Perth express passing the signals was never established as the driver was amongst those who died.

Harrow and Wealdstone Station
This is the station building on the Wealdstone side. Sadly the station will always be remembered for the events of 8 October 1952 when Britain's worst train crash in peacetime occurred. A Scottish express train colliding with the rear of a local train standing at platform 4 then seconds later a northbound express hauled by two locomotives collided with the wreckage causing further injury and demolished one span of the footbridge and the northern end of platforms 2 and 3.In total 112 people were killed and 340 were injured.

Harrow & Wealdstone station
The clock tower is at the end of the overhead pedestrian bridge and leads down to street level. It features in many photographs taken at the time of the rail crash at the station on 8th October 1952 in which 112 people died. Two expresses and a local train were involved. This was and remains the worst English rail disaster.

Harrow & Wealdstone station: The disused platform 7
There is now no track alongside this platform, which was used formerly for the branch trains to Belmont and (until 1952) Stanmore village. The locomotive in Image is standing at this platform.

Fowler 2-6-2T at Harrow and Wealdstone
These locomotives, of which some 70 were built, were introduced mainly for local passenger services on the LMS. Here 40010 is seen on a service from Belmont. As far as I am aware, no example of the class has been preserved.
