The Kodak Site in 2019
The Kodak film company opened a factory in Harrow in 1891. At its peak in the 1950s around 6000 people worked here but the rise of digital photography and Kodak's failure to engage with it caused a swift decline, leading to eventual closure in 2016. The factory has been demolished and the site is being prepared for housing. A good history, albeit with irritating adverts, is on https://www.mylondon.news/news/west-london-news/fascinating-history-harrows-iconic-kodak-15525146

Developing Kodak
The remnants of the large Kodak works in Harrow seen from Headstone Drive. The foreground area has been cleared in preparation for redevelopment and proposals from the Land Securities Group have recently (2013) been given the go ahead by the government. The new development will be a mix of housing, retail space and industrial units. Kodak, in the form of Kodak alaris - a separate UK business bought from the parent company by the UK Kodak Pension Plan and manufacturing printing papers, have indicated that they remain committed to a continued presence as an employer in Harrow.

Harrow View and Kodak Factory
Taken from a new roundabout on Harrow View which represents part of the redevelopment of the Kodak factory site and forms what the development plan calls the 'Employment Gateway' - new industrial units will line the road on the left. Work on phase 1 of the redevelopment started in March 2013.

Wealdstone: Kodak
Since this is a photography website it seems only right to record the whereabouts of Kodak! This is their large Harrow site in Headstone Drive, Wealdstone, which occupies most of the north-east quadrant of TQ1489. Kodak have had a presence in the area since the 1890s.

Kodak alaris
Entrance to the Kodak alaris site on Headstone drive. The company is separate from the Eastman Kodak business having been bought from them by the UK Kodak Pension Plan and continues to make colour priniting papers for worldwide distribution. The company has indicated its commitment to continue as an employer in Harrow but whether that will be at this site with current redevelopment proposals agreed by the government (2013) is uncertain.

Junction of Headstone Drive and Harrow View
Looking from the corner of Headstone Gardens. headstone Drive is the road on the left of the photo. The parade of shops with housing is quite typical of suburban areas in northwest London.
