Merrow Shopping Parade
On Guildford's Epsom Road, there have been several changes of ownership for these shops over the 20 years prior to demolition ca 2008. Here is included an estate agent, bank, travel agent, Indian restaurant and a former baker's shop.
Ca 2010 this parade was replaced by a new line of shops with flats above them.

Planning Blight
2008 - more closed shops in Merrow as planning rolls on, rebuilding these ca 2010 with 3 new shops and flats above them. The baker is closed, the Indian restaurant is still currying favour with customers (and will make a comeback), the travel agent has flown to Bramley, and the Lloyds TSB bank still opens for business.

Shops in Epsom Road, Merrow, Guildford
The block of shops with flats or offices above, by the bus stop, has been built in the last few years. This development replaced older units. Of the three shop units in this block, only one appears to be occupied.

Replacement apartment and shopping block on Epsom Road, Merrow. The street level retail units under the barrel-shaped roof block have yet to be occupied.

Modern Progress in Merrow 2008
An old single storey shopping parade was demolished in 2008 and a new multi-storey development took its place by 2010. A steel girder construction was erected on Epsom Road, jutting further into the pavement than the earlier row of shops. The new development included a mix of shops with houses above. To the left is Gascoigne-Pees estate agent's branch while in the background are the historic Horse & Groom pub and St John's Church.
