Cottages in Coln St Aldwyns
One might be tempted to think that these are old cottages dating back to the 18th or 19th century, but they are dated 1947, which says a lot about the skill and foresight of the architect involved as it would have been easy to erect something totally out of character with the rest of the village. An inscribed stone over the entrance reads as follows... 'These cottages were built of stone and timber from Williamstrip House as a memorial to Lucy Catherine Countess St Aldwyn 1851-1940 Loved and remembered for her many great qualities by her grandson Michael John 2nd Earl St Aldwyn 1947'

Almshouses in Coln St Aldwyns
An inscription on the wall reads as follows.... 'The Wilkins Charity Coln St Aldwyn. These almshouses are maintained for the benefit of the poor of this parish by a legacy left by Edmund James Wilkins who died 6th August 1916' One would guess that the almshouses have now become a single private dwelling as one doorway has been blocked in and the exterior is one garden.

This square consists of the village and farmland. The church gate was locked so this was the best picture one could get of the church.
