The Lord John, Stroud

The pub, the street (and also nearby John Street) are named after Lord John Russell. He was a Liberal Member of Parliament for Stroud from 1835 to 1841. He had earlier been one of the principal leaders of the movement which led to the Great Reform Act of 1832. He later served two terms as Prime Minister of the UK.
