Up empties near Churchdown, 1949
View westward on the main lines between Gloucester and Cheltenham, widened to four-track during World War Two until 1967, being a critical stretch carrying Bristol-Birmingham together with Swindon - South Wales traffic of the LMSR and GWR. The train is between Churchdown and Badgeworth signal-box heading towards Cheltenham, behind ex-GWR 'Hall' 4-6-0 No. 5988 'Bostock Hall' (built 11/39, withdrawn 10/65).

Weston-super-Mare - Sheffield express between Gloucester and Cheltenham
View westward towards Gloucester and near Badgeworth Box east of Churchdown: ex-GW & Midland Joint line (see Image] and others). This is a very typical Summer Saturday scene of the day. The train was the Saturdays Only 09.15 from the Locking Road subsidiary station at Weston, 09.55 from Bristol Temple Meads and was due - with luck - at Sheffield at 14.30. The locomotive is Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44918 (built 12/45, withdrawn 1/67).
