Cheltenham houses [113]
This terrace of houses in Suffolk Place is now flats. Built circa 1832 in ashlar over brick with slate roofs and iron balconies and railings. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1387947 Cheltenham is located at the foot of the Cotswold scarp with the small River Chelt flowing through the town. After the discovery of mineral springs in 1716 Cheltenham became a spa town and many Regency houses and other buildings were erected. The town is home to the renowned Cheltenham Festival, four days of horse jump racing culminating in the Gold Cup, held annually in March at the nearby racecourse.

The Montpellier, Cheltenham
The Montpellier opened here in July 2011. It is a brasserie, bar, gallery and cafe at 1-3 Montpellier Terrace. The building dates from 1810. It was a boarding house with Cheltenham's first spa well in its gardens, which was later covered and still lies beneath the building. In the late 19th century the building was converted to a dressmakers & boutique shop. From 1925-2011 the building was split into two businesses. There was a bank (latterly HSBC) on the ground floor and a cafe on the upper floor.

Cheltenham buildings [90]
Odd numbers 1 to 9 Montpellier Terrace was built as a terrace of 5 houses, circa 1823, in ashlar over brick, now part stuccoed, under slate roofs. Odd numbers 1 to 5 Montpellier Terrace (seen here) was occupied for many years by HSBC Bank, formerly Midland Bank. The bank closed circa 2010 and the site is now home to a restaurant. This fine villa, Imperial House in Lypiatt Road, is now used as offices. Built circa 1829 with later alterations and a 1960s rear range. Constructed in ashlar over brick with a concealed roof. The Gordon Lamp
The Gordon Lamp was erected in 1887 in memory of General Gordon who was killed in Khartoum in 1885. The lamp which is Grade II listed stands on a traffic island in the centre of Lansdown Road.
