I was fortunate to be present when the pillar-box was being emptied. The postman kindly allowed me to take this shot showing the interior of the Victorian icon. Douro Road leads away north from the viewpoint. There is another view of the post-box here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1472262

I am largely unmoved by pillar-boxes or post-boxes with the exception of Penfolds, which I find to be utterly charming. This is a close view of the one seen in its context here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1472252 and here http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1472242 As with all Penfolds it is listed Grade II http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=474602
