Grade II* listed Alma House, Cheltenham
Now in use as offices, Alma House was built as a villa in 1838 on the corner of Imperial Lane and Rodney Road. Grade II* listed in March 1955.

Cheltenham houses [115]
This lovely detached villa, Alma House in Rodney Road, is now offices. Built in 1838 with later alterations. Constructed of stuccoed brick with very fine detailing, under a concealed roof. Circa 1905 the conservatory was added and the interior of the villa was refurbished by George Walton in Art Nouveau style. The sumptuous decoration remains and is regarded as 'one of the most complete of Walton's schemes of this period ... one of the high points of Walton's career in interior decoration'. Listed, grade II* with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1387813 Cheltenham is located at the foot of the Cotswold scarp with the small River Chelt flowing through the town. After the discovery of mineral springs in 1716 Cheltenham became a spa town and many Regency houses and other buildings were erected. The town is home to the renowned Cheltenham Festival, four days of horse jump racing culminating in the Gold Cup, held annually in March at the nearby racecourse.

A very fine villa of 1835, pilastered and beporched. Grade II* listed. In front is the more modest Woodlands, dated c1800, and with ironwork and Gothic detail. Grade II listed. Both have been converted to office use.

Union Flag, 71 Rodney Road, Cheltenham
There have been several events this year that could have prompted the possessors of this fine Georgian villa to fly the British flag. The likeliest one is the occasion of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. The villa, together with its railings, is listed Grade II http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=475771 The flag is being flown the right way up.

Cheltenham features [43]
In Regent Street this delightful lamp post was first lit in 1869 and is an early example of one intended for electricity. It has an arched lamp holder and dragon infill with crowning onion finial.
