Bull-leaping sculpture, Taurus Crafts, Lydney
Taurus Crafts is an arts and crafts visitor centre, the base for 15 small artisan businesses, most of which make and sell from their workshops. There is a giftshop, cafe, and a local & organic food shop.
Taurus is Latin for bull. There is a wooden bull sculpture http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3291796 near the entrance. The sculpture seen here depicts bull-leaping, or taurokathapsia, an ancient Cretan sport in which a performer grasps the horns of a bull and somersaults over him. Bull-leaping was often depicted in Bronze Age art.
