'Castle' at Gloucester Shed, 1958
Seen from the north end of the former Eastgate Station is Gloucester (Horton Road)'s special No. 5017 'The Gloucestershire Regiment 28th - 61st'. It was built 7/32 as 'St Donats Castle', renamed in 4/54 in honour of the bravery and sacrifice of that Regiment in the Korean War, and withdrawn 9/62. The Shed buildings are off to the right.

An early 'Saint' at Gloucester GWR Shed, 1947
Still at work but with less than a year to live, GWR 'Saint' 4-6-0 No. 2988 'Rob Roy' is on the turntable at Gloucester (Horton Road) depot. It was built 8/1905 as a 4-4-2 No. 188, rebuilt as 4-6-0 no. 2988 in 5/1914 and withdrawn 5/48. [In 1947 my camera was not adequate].

A '3150' 2-6-2T at Gloucester GW Locomotive Depot
Normally employed banking Up freight trains from Brimscombe up to Sapperton Tunnel, No. 3171 (built 10/07, withdrawn 7/57) rests in the Depot Yard along with 0-6-0 Pannier tanks. This was just after Nationalisation, so 'GWR' still on the tank sides and no smokebox number-plate. Gloucester (Horton Road) Depot was in the Worcester Division and had an allocation in 1947 of 63:- 15 4-6-0, 4 4-4-0, 2 2-8-0 (1 LMS-type, 1 ex-WD), 8 2-6-0, 4 0-6-0, 5 2-6-2T, 3 0-6-2T, 17 0-6-0T and 5 0-4-2T.

GW 'County' 4-6-0 leaving the Locomotive Depot at Gloucester
In splendid condition after repair at Swindon Works, Hawksworth 'County' class 4-6-0 No. 1013 'County of Dorset' (built 2/46, withdrawn 7/64) is captured from Gloucester Eastgate station as it backs out of Horton Road Depot.
