Jailhouse Tours are here - Gloucester Prison, Gloucestershire
Jailhouse Tours are based in Shrewsbury in Shropshire and organise tours and other events, such as ghost hunts, at three former prisons in England, these being Gloucester, Shepton Mallet in Somerset and Shrewsbury. This site here in Gloucester is in the hands of developers City & Country who are to convert the site to residential use in the future - I am not sure whether the existing buildings will be made use of or whether the site will be cleared and a new build made here. These photos of the former Gloucester Prison were taken on the day of an English Heritage guided tour in tandem with a Jailhouse Tour. Time photo taken 3.36 pm BST (British Summer Time).

Pole vaulting anyone - Gloucester Prison, Gloucestershire
Having been closed some three years ago by the Ministry of Justice, the site is now in the ownership of City and Country who are to develop the site for residential use. In spite of obvious measures to keep people in and numerous daily checks on numbers, there have been escapes. In his descriptions of his personal experiences of prison life, the books of tramp writer Jim Phelan are of considerable value and interest. Time photo taken 11.46 pm BST (British Summer Time).
