Unusual name sign, The Abbey pub, Gloucester
Located here, http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4930634 the Abbey pub's name sign is a small three-dimensional depiction of Gloucester Abbey.
Founded in the 11th century, Gloucester Abbey was a Benedictine abbey for monks in the city of Gloucester.
The abbey was dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1540, and became Gloucester Cathedral in the following year.

Drinking at The Abbey
The Bramwell Pub Company has spent £140,000 on revamping this venue. Formerly The Varsity, the owners have renamed it as The Abbey in October, 2012; they claim to have made it lighter and brighter, with a change of furniture, new seating, a 'snug' and a new menu. They also included a little ecclesiastical ornament for the outside.

Wall clock on a Gloucester city centre corner
The clock is embedded in the wall on the Hare Lane side of the corner of Northgate Street. Viewed in late April 2016 when the corner premises are vacant and to let. A May 2009 Google Earth Street View shows a Britannia Building Society branch on this corner.
