Bristol - Nottingham extra holiday express near Haresfield
View southward, towards Bristol etc.: ex-Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line, paralleling the Up ex-GWR main line. (See also
Image]). These rebuilt 'Royal Scot' 7P 4-6-0 locomotives had only recently been working on this main line, having been displaced from their normal routes by Diesels. This train ran on just four Peak Summer Saturdays and is headed by No. 46160 'Queen Victoria's Rifleman', built 8/30, rebuilt 2/45 and withdrawn 5/65.

Bradford - Paignton express near Haresfield
View northward, towards Gloucester, Cheltenham, Birmingham and the North. Rebuilt 'Royal Scot' 7P 4-6-0 No. 46130 'The West Yorkshire Regiment' is forging down towards Bristol on the 09.20 Bradford (Forster Square) to Paignton relief to the 'Devonian' (made up partly of ex-LNER stock) on a peak Summer Saturday. This left-hand pair of tracks carried the ex-Midland Birmingham (New St.) - Bristol traffic, passing through Haresfield Station (sited in the background, closed 4/1/65). The right-hand pair of tracks carried the ex-Great Western traffic (eschewing Haresfield) from Gloucester (and South Wales via Chepstow) and Cheltenham to Swindon, also carrying GWR trains from Birmingham (Snow Hill) via Stratford-on-Avon and Cheltenham to Bristol, which shared metals with the Midland trains between Standish Junction and Yate.

Passing Haresfield loop
A view from the public foot crossing of a Voyager passenger train heading from Bristol towards Cheltenham. The points leading to the freight loop can be seen on the left. This is the main Birmingham to Bristol line and not far south is the junction at Standish where the line to Swindon branches off.

Weston-super-Mare - Birmingham Snow Hill express at Haresfield

The 14.05 from Weston-s-M, being a WR train which will avoid Gloucester to go via Cheltenham Malvern Road and Stratford-on-Avon to Birmingham Snow Hill (due 17.36), it is running here on the ex-GW lines. The locomotive is Collett-design 4-6-0 No. 6904 'Charfield Hall' (built 7/40, withdrawn 1/65).

Down 'Pines Express' passing Haresfield station
View northward, towards Gloucester and the North on the ex-Midland Birmingham - Bristol main line, with the ex-GW main line passing on the right - eschewing the station: the signals for the - Up - GW line seen at Danger include the Distants for Standish Junction Box. This was in the penultimate year for this famous express to run via Bath (Green Park) over the S&D route from Manchester (London Road, then Piccadilly) dep. 10.15/10.20(Sat.), via Crewe and Birmingham New Street, due at Bournemouth West 17.32/18.10 (Sat.). This was also in the brief period when the BR 9F 2-10-0s famously found a new use on express passenger work, here No. 92151 (built 11/57, withdrawn 4/67). Haresfield station was closed on 4/1/65.
