Victorian Fingerpost, Eastington
Erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897; junction Bath & Alkerton Roads. Two steps, tapering plinth with 3 eroded inscribed tablets & 1 shell-shaped drinking fountain, octagonal shaft, arms mounted in gabled niches, for detail see Image, surmounted by a crown. Apparently moved from road side when roundabout installed; when locals saw me photographing the post, they assumed it was to be moved again!

Fingerpost at Eastington (detail)
Detail of the top of the finger/guide post in the centre of Eastington. Erected on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Very Victorian Gothic; the stone pillar is weathered, but the cast-iron arms are perfect. There are only three, as this is a 3-way junction. English Heritage-listed.
