Inverbeg Youth Hostel
Inverbeg Youth Hostel was operational from 1931 to 1993.
The hostel was constructed on a site donated by Sir Iain Colquhoun of Luss, 7th Baronet, KT, DSO & FRSE, a strong supporter of the movement, who officially opened the hostel on 22nd August 1931. The structure was erected in twelve days by Cowiesons Ltd.
By 1993, after 60 years use, the structure of the hostel had deteriorated considerably; new water treatment equipment and expensive repairs would be needed; a decision was made to close the hostel, effected on 1st November 1993.
I have happy memories of many nights spent at Inverbeg, from my first bednight there in 1969, till my last visit on 17th October 1993, which was two weeks before it closed.
