The tablets are the same ones as appear in one of my earlier pictures (Image), but at some point after that picture was taken, they were moved to this new location behind the Image (for which, see also Image / Image / Image / Image).

The Beardmore Sculpture
For an earlier photo, see Image; see also Image, where it is shown illuminated. This galvanized sculpture is by the local artist Tom McKendrick, and represents the battleship HMS Ramillies. The original vessel was built locally, at the Naval Construction Works, the Dalmuir shipyard of William Beardmore and Co., during the First World War. The shipyard was located in the area where the Image now stands. The Image was later moved to a location beside a path just behind this sculpture; it had earlier been beside a Image

Dalmuir Drop-Lock
This was the first drop-lock in the UK; the concept is unusual as the road does not lift or move out of the way to let vessels pass, but rather the water in the lock lowers to permit the vessel to progress UNDER the non-moving road-bridge.

Dalmuir Drop Lock on the Forth and Clyde Canal
The UK's first drop lock allows boats to pass under Dumbarton Road at Dalmuir, without disrupting traffic, by temporarily lowering the water level beneath the road to give sufficient headroom. When a boat has entered the lock chamber, 2000 cubic metres of water are pumped out to increase the air draft to 3 metres. The process takes around 40 minutes. The lock is manned by British Waterways staff.
