Information about the Blane Valley Railway
The covered information panels beside the Gary Wright Way along the old railway line have been produced by the Strathblane Community Development Trust. They give some information about the history of the Blane Valley Railway and associated people. The line opened in 1866 for freight and 1867 for passengers. It operated until the 1950s, closing to passengers in 1951 and to freight in 1959. There are interesting stories about people including Alice Keppel and King Edward VII; Jim Craig (see Image); and Owen O'Toole. The latter sadly died in an accident at Blanefield Station, close to this location.

Elfcups, Blanefield
Some fruiting bodies of either Sarcoscypha austriaca (scarlet elfcup) or Sarcoscypha coccinea (ruby elfcup). Both species are very similar and require microscopic identification for confirmation. They grow on rotting sticks and branches on the woodland floor. Seen here beside Gary Wright Way in Blanefield.
