Caledonian '928' class 4-4-0 at Polmadie Locomotive Depot
One of the many scores of locomotives resting outside the big Polmadie Depot at Rutherglen on a Sunday in 1948 is Caledonian Pickersgill class '928' 4-4-0 No. 14468 (built c. 1916, withdrawn 11/59). Note that the engine has evidently been in a minor accident.

Polmadie Locomotive Depot: a string of locomotives resting on a Sunday
View northward, from beside the main line out of Glasgow Central. This very large, 14-road Depot (just visible far left) was the principal ex-Caledonian Depot serving the extensive long-distance and suburban services from Glasgow Central, as well as an intensive freight traffic from and between the Goods Yards on the South Side. It was coded 27A by the LMSR, 66A by BR and had an allocation of 178 locomotives in 1946, comprising:- 12 4-6-2s, 17 4-6-0s, 13 4-4-0s, 43 0-6-0s, 9 4-6-2Ts, 23 2-6-4Ts, 43 0-6-0Ts and 18 0-4-4Ts, the majority of which in those days being ex-Caledonian engines.
