"William Hay Hannay, ex-Bailie of this city, died 27th August 1920, aged 69 years." The inscription also commemorates his daughter, Jane Lorimer Chrichton, who died in infancy, and his wife of the same name, who died on the 9th of March, 1929, aged 70. William was the elder brother of the chemist James Ballantyne Hannay; the latter attracted considerable attention when he mistakenly claimed (in a paper that was published in 1880) to have devised a method for creating synthetic diamonds. [The discovery of a secret process to create synthetic diamonds would later prove to be ideal fodder for film writers; for example, two of the 1940s films featuring The Falcon (a character very similar to The Saint) would employ it as a plot device: "A Date with the Falcon" (1942) and "The Falcon's Adventure" (1946).]

This much-defaced memorial is the work of A. Carleton Smyth. The inscription commemorates Andrew Connal Arthur, who died on the 20th March, 1917, aged 22; also, Andrew Arthur of Rosemount, Monkton, who died on the 23rd of August, 1936, aged 73, and his wife Elizabeth F. Connal, who died on the 19th of October, 1957, aged 93. The inscription does not provide any further information. However, the last two names given above are those of Andrew Connal Arthur's parents: Elizabeth Frankland Connal and Andrew Arthur (who was a Major in the Queen's Own Royal Glasgow Imperial Yeomanry).

Behind the surviving base of the memorial in the foreground are fragments of its top, as well as parts of other nearby memorials (this was perhaps storm damage). On this side, the inscription commemorates Alexandra Hamilton Bruce, who died in 1916, aged 52; as recorded on the far side, her husband, Alexander Wilson Waddell, died in 1942, aged 82.
