Whiteinch Riverside railway station (site), Glasgow
Opened in 1896 as "Whiteinch" by the Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire Railway, effectively part of the Caledonian Railway, on the line from Partick to Dumbarton, "Riverside" was added to the name in 1953. The station closed in 1964.
View north west towards Scotstoun East and Dumbarton. The line was on a viaduct here parallel to South Street, with the building being above the bridge over Ferryden Street, on the right of this image. All have been swept away and replaced by housing. However the viaduct was extant beyond the station site (marked by the trees in the distance) and in use as a public footpath, when this image was taken.

Old railway embankment with Smith Street flats behind
South Street, in the foreground, is extremely quiet on a Sunday morning. The disused railway embankment comes to an end on this corner, where South Street and Ferryden Street meet. It now boasts an advertising hoarding.

Whiteinch Indoor Bowling Club
The bowling club is pretty much in keeping with the anonymous depots and warehouses that line South Street. It is viewed from the old railway embankment.

Abandoned railway, abandoned cycleway
The brickwork beyond the tree is part of the platform of the former Whiteinch Riverside station, opened by the Caledonian Railway in 1896 and closed by British Railways in 1964. The tarmac where the rails once were was part of the Glasgow to Loch Lomond cycleway, into which the railway was converted several years later. Where both the tarmac and the platform end there is a 20-foot drop to ground-level. The viaduct and embankment that gave passing cyclists and pedestrians an elevated view of the riverside were recently demolished because, it was claimed, they blocked the view from further inland. It seems ironic, therefore, that a huge monolithic car showroom building (the grey box beyond the trees on the left) and several multi-storey blocks of flats below the tower crane are deemed to be less of an obstruction to riverward views.

Former Pedestrian Exit from the Clyde Tunnel
The view of the third pedestrian entrance/exit to the tunnel. Originally pedestrians had three entrances and exits from the Clyde Tunnel. There are two entrances/exits which are adjacent to the cycle path. The third entrance for pedestrians alone is by way of a staircase from the buildings above the road tunnel entrance/exit. However, as this view indicates, the third entrance/exit (the stairs behind the gate) is now closed to the public. In addition the locked gate also prevents pedestrians from using the western tunnel after having entered by the eastern cyclepath, and vice versa on entering by the western cyclepath.
