Cowley Steps
Looking up the River Exe from the eastern Cowley Bridge to the weir known as Cowley Steps, for obvious reasons. "Cowley Steps were designed by an engineer with a perverse hatred of all canoeists" http://www.ennerlampkirk.org.uk/wccc/exeDescent.htm . Behind, the Barnstaple ("Tarka") railway line diverges from the main line to Tiverton Parkway, just visible through trees at top right.

Tree and pylons from Cowley Bridge
An alder, I think, by the banks of a river. Maps show this as the River Creedy, but this bridge is often said to span the Exe. The two rivers are linked upstream (the direction this photo looks) from the bridge, first by a major channel near the Pynes Water Treatment Works, and then via the channel on the right here.
