Valley at Beer
Another view across the meadow shown in Image, looking to the left, more directly across the dry valley. The houses are on West Underleys. A thick patch of trees surrounds the field across the valley, together with clumps of trees within both it and the field above it. The notice in front of the camera has suffered because the initial words, presumably printed in red, have faded. It now reads "as cows with young calves do not like strangers with dogs on or off leads" but the gist is fairly clear. There is no right of way across the field, but dog walkers have doubtless used it as a shortcut to the green lane from which this was taken.

Meadow by Mare Lane
Through a gateway by the green lane shown in Image, with the land dropping into the deep valley behind Beer. The sea is over the next ridge.

Closer inspection will show that the engine is derailed. This happened due to the points being wrongly set. It took 20 minutes to sort out the problem with one train having to offload its passengers in a small tunnel. One shouldn't, but even the signalman was laughing...
