This striking building also appears in Image and Image There's a good selection of photos by Eileen Wright at http://www.pastremains.co.uk/cemeterylodge.htm ; http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-41070478.html suggests a date of 1879. A little surprising that it's not listed.

Hair Flair and Part Service Limited, Sidmouth
Hairdressers Hair Flair on the left is at 116 Temple Street.
The premises next door were formerly occupied by The Gearbox.
At the June 2013 date of this view, the business is Part Service Limited, motor factors. A notice in the window shows (incorporating the Gearbox). Motor factors are sellers of car parts and accessories.

Turnpike Cottages Winslade Road
These are possibly the oldest houses in the road.
Prior to 1903 being called Turnpike Lane. Winslade derives its name from the fields that the road was built upon.
Note the contrasting styles.
The more decorative being on the corner having a commanding view of the main road.
The location of the toll/turnpike was possibly on the corner.
