Ducks and green reflections
There were a good number of ducks paddling about on the lakes in Oakmere Park. These are two of about twelve that were on its easternmost pool. The bright sun on this hot July day (30+°C) turned the water into an almost metallic shimmering green expanse. The ducks in the park were mostly mallards or mallard hybrids.

Oakmere Park - Eastern pool through a gap in the trees
A glimpse of the more easterly of the two lakes in Oakmere Park, Potters Bar (there are two much smaller lakes on the opposite side of the road). For a clearer view of this pool see Image]

Oakmere Park - Eastern pool
A view of the more easterly of the two large pools in Oakmere Park (there are also two smaller pools on the other side of the main road). As can be seen from the photo and the larger scale map, this pool has a substantial island in it and plenty of wildlife use the pools and the sanctuary provided by the island.

Fallen tree, Oakmere Park
This tree stood until recently on the northern bank of Oakmere Park's largest lake. It was right at the water's edge and presumably the bankside gave way, toppling the tree and sending it crashing into the water where it now lies.

Oakmere Park - Western pool
Oakmere Park in Potters Bar has two lakes (with two much smaller lakes on the opposite side of the road). This is a view from the bank of the more westerly of the two main lakes with a little of the former Oakmere House, now "The Oakmere" pub / restaurant visible through the foliage.

Misty morning in Oakmere Park
A view of the more westerly of two pools in Oakmere Park, Potters Bar. A favourite haunt of ducks, geese, swans, coot (an example seen here) - and on the drier bits, numerous grey squirrels. See also Image]

Oakmere Park - Western pool
Oakmere Park surrounds the former Oakmere House, now a pub and restaurant (called, unsurprisingly, "The Oakmere"). There are two substantial pools in these grounds (with another pool in a continuation of the park on the other side of the High Street). This is a view of the little island in the more western of these two pools, taken on a misty morning at precisely 11:11:11 on 11/11/11 (though the EXIF info suggests it was 6 seconds later !).
