Ducks and green reflections
There were a good number of ducks paddling about on the lakes in Oakmere Park. These are two of about twelve that were on its easternmost pool. The bright sun on this hot July day (30+°C) turned the water into an almost metallic shimmering green expanse. The ducks in the park were mostly mallards or mallard hybrids.

Oakmere Park - Eastern pool
A view of the more easterly of the two large pools in Oakmere Park (there are also two smaller pools on the other side of the main road). As can be seen from the photo and the larger scale map, this pool has a substantial island in it and plenty of wildlife use the pools and the sanctuary provided by the island.

Agaricus xanthodermus - picked
Here are two of the Yellow Staining Mushrooms (Agaricus xanthodermus) (see Image]) picked and brought back to the office a few yards away. The two examples here show an immature specimen on the left displaying its club-like or padded drum-stick shape, and a mature specimen on the right with its ring and some yellow staining on the base and to the cap (on the right-hand side). To see the chrome yellow staining of this poisonous species see Image]
