This magnificent Cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani) is Tree 14 on the Oakmere and Parkfield Tree Trail http://beta.hertsmere.gov.uk/Documents/08-Parks--Leisure/Parks--Open-Spaces/Park-facilities/Potters-Bar/Parkfield--Oakmere-Tree-Trail-leaflet.pdf (a rather low quality pdf leaflet for the trail). A representation of this species of tree is to be found on the flag of Lebabon, and a revolution that occurred in that country in 2005 was known as the "Cedar Revolution" Cedars do have a rather alarming reputation for shedding branches unexpectedly - and as these may weigh a couple of tons it's best not to be too near when this happens !

On Friday (18/2/22) as Storm Eunice swept across the UK, this upper section of Potters Bar High Street was closed as a large construction of scaffolding was teetering, and some had already fallen along (I believe) with part of the building's roof. I don't know if the road was later re-opened, but in the small hours of Monday (21/2/22) Storm Franklin went one better - bringing down a whole section of the scaffolding and spraying it across the High Street into Oakmere Park on the opposite side of the road. Needless to say, the road is definitely closed again and I would think it will remain that way for quite some time.

Parkfield is the continuation on the western side of Potters Bar High Street of Oakmere Park which was originally the grounds of Oakmere House. Parkfield's pools are on a much smaller scale than those of its neighbour. The local council does a good job of keeping the parks here in fine condition.

A Potters Bar player heads the ball in the local derby against Wingate and Finchley FC. Behind, the fire escapes of the flats on the High Street provide a good viewing platform for anyone wishing to see a game of football - there were no takers on this bright but chilly afternoon.

This tree is not far from the lake in Oakmere Park. The buildings in the High Street can be seen in the distance.
