St Mary Magdalene Church, Enfield
The church was built in 1883 by William Butterfield and was commissioned by Georgiana Twells in memory of her husband Philip Twells, MP for the City of London, who had died in 1880. To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897, Georgiana Twells' final gift to the church was the superb internal artwork in the church. Georgiana Twells died the following year and she was buried alongside her husband in Lavender Hill Cemetery - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5314042 The land for the cemetery, as well as the Town Park and library, were also the legacy of the Twells. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2957282 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2717620 which are two of a whole series of photographs by John Salmon of the interior of St Mary Magdalene Church. A board outside also gives some indication of the glorious interior of the church - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5314143
