Enfield: Lincoln Road level crossing
It's extraordinary to think that this antiquated manually-operated narrow level crossing still exists to take public road traffic over a London suburban railway line in 2006. Coupled with the fact that motorists have to approach the single gates with a blind summit in front of them, with no priority in either direction, and regularly have to swerve on the top to avoid one another, would make it seem like an accident waiting to happen! However, judging by the lack of any accident reports it does seem to work. It's sited on the Enfield branch line about halfway between Bush Hill Park and the terminus, Enfield Town, stations. Oh, and it's closed at night, which is probably just as well...

I have been told this is the only person operated level crossing in London, but not on Sundays.

Lincoln Road, Enfield
Originally the level crossing was in use between 6am-6pm weekdays but has now apparently been closed permanently, although the old opening time signs are still there.
